Oliver Co. London
Minimalist Sustainable Accessories
Oliver Co. is a sustainable accessories brand that creates design-led, premium quality products that cause as little environmental impact as possible. Founded upon the belief that premium aesthetics, functionality and sustainable design don't have to be mutually exclusive, its vegan wallets, cardholders, passport holders and key-rings look good and do good, making use of innovative sustainable fabrics to challenge our understanding of luxury items.
They have been featured in Independent's IndyBest segment, with their Compact Wallet being named the IndyBest wallet. Other mentions include GQ, the Times, the Guardian, the Telegraph, Grazia, and Stylist.
How they started
Oliver Co.'s founder is Matt Oliver, a product designer, who, after studying sustainable design and working in high-end watch design, wanted to create a premium brand that offers an alternative to environmentally-taxing leathers and synthetic alternatives. With sustainability at its core, the brand uses bio-materials, which are specially engineered materials that combine biology, technology and material science to deliver design and performance with minimal environmental impact.
The main material found in their collection is Apple Leather, an Italian-made material created using the leftover apple pomace and peel from the fruit juice and compote industry. The fabric is created by reducing this waste to a powder, processing it, combining it with polyurethane and coating it onto a canvas. The result is a durable but soft fabric that is perfect for hard-wearing small accessories. By using renewable resources that would otherwise be sent to landfill or burnt, the fabric requires less water and considerably reduces its CO2 impact compared to other leathers and faux leathers on the market.
Oliver Co. are members of 1% for the Planet, a global organisation that helps them give back 1% of annual sales every year. Last year they also became a member of Climate Neutral, an independent non-profit organisation that helps companies measure their carbon footprint and offset it in its entirety. They also aim to tackle food waste within London by partnering and volunteering with the Felix Project each year, a charity that collects fresh, nutritious food that cannot be sold and delivers it across London to the people that need it most.
